Maryna Krut is a Ukrainian singer and virtuoso of the bandura, a Ukrainian string instrument that looks like a cross between a lute and a zither. Immersed in her country’s traditional music as a child, she now incorporates some non-traditional elements into her playing, principally jazz, using it both as a solo instrument and to accompany her powerful vocals.In Ukraine, she gained a national following after appearances on that country’s versions of The X Factor and The Voice as well as placing in the Ukrainian final of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020.

Maryna Krut est une chanteuse ukrainienne et une virtuose de la bandoura, un instrument à cordes ukrainien dont l’apparence rappelle un croisement entre un luth et une cithare. Initiée dès l’enfance à la musique traditionnelle de son pays, elle insuffle aujourd’hui à son art des éléments non traditionnels – principalement le jazz –, et utilise la bandoura tantôt en instrument soliste, tantôt pour accompagner sa voix puissante.
En Ukraine, elle s’est fait connaître auprès du grand public grâce à ses participations aux versions ukrainiennes de The X Factor et The Voice, et après s’être hissée jusqu’à la finale de la section ukrainienne du Concours Eurovision de la chanson 2020.
