About this Event
Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in North Richmond!
Join The Watershed Project this MLK Day to plant two planter areas in the newly renovated Shields-Reid Park! As part of the statewide Outdoors for All initiative, this park was redesigned with input from the community and includes the features that neighbors most wanted, including an outdoor stage to host North Richmond’s historic blues music festival and a bike pump track to help local youth try out their bike skills. Learn more about this great project here.
To complement a large native plant bioswale that will help keep the park from flooding, we will be planting a selection of herbs and edible native plants in raised beds for anyone in the community to harvest and enjoy.
Activities will include learning about how to use native plants as herbs and teas, planting, and cleaning up any litter around the park. All ages welcome, and gloves and tools will be provided.
Please note this is an outdoor activity in January, so dress accordingly! Heavy rain will cancel, light rain is just nice gardening weather! Please sign up for event maps and updates.
