About this Event
Margate Professional Class with Simon
Simon’s class will draw on his layered experience of the body in varying contexts: as source, as recipient, as object and as support. It will involve going both inward and outward to seek and recontextualise information. Expect to move alone, together and in contact with others, calling on a constant sense of presence and acknowledgement.
A bit more about Simon:
Simon’s performing work spans the realms of movement, theatre, puppetry, and voice. His practice has always connected to the heart of live performance and its singular potentiality: storytelling, shaping a multidisciplinary performance career of more than twenty years to date. He has a particular interest in the interconnectedness of the body to aspects such as voice (vocalising as a physical act) and environment, wherein body and surrounding objects share a protagonism, and the dance between them begins.
Simon has lived and worked in cities near and far, including Bristol and Shanghai, and is now based in Margate. He has appeared in several works for Maresa von Stockert/Tilted Productions, and continues to collaborate with both Theatre-Rites and Luca Silvestrini's Protein Dance, as a dancer, puppeteer, actor, and singer. Other work includes Sleep No More Shanghai and The Drowned Man (Punchdrunk), The Little Match Girl and Ten Sorry Tales (Ballo Arthur Pita), Betrayal: A Polyphonic Crime Drama (I Fagiolini), Mucky Pup (Theatre Alibi), Benvenuto Cellini (Terry Gilliam/ENO). He has worked with Secret Cinema, Tom Roden, Jodie Cole, Jo Blake, Sweetshop Revolution, Hannah Buckley and Ilona Sagar.
Margate Pro Class is aimed at those who have trained in dance/ theatre at higher education or further.
