About this Event
Margate Professional Class with Jodie
A little bit from Jodie about her class:
We will begin on the floor, resting and grounding, awakening somatic awareness through gentle exploration of the skeleton, sensation, and breath. We will gradually transition to standing into improvised tasks, exploring weight, gravity, and flow. We will then move to ensemble explorations, allowing the observations and sensations cultivated earlier in the class to inform the work, and encouraging presence and curiosity through the body in relation to others and the space.
A bit about Jodie:
I’m a neurodivergent dancer, choreographer, facilitator. I like to uncover paths to pleasure, presence, and joy through dance. This can take the form of somatic movement, floor work, improvisation, contact work, and solo explorations. Known for my joyous and compassionate approach, I encourage curiosity, play, and acceptance.I’m an experienced inclusive practitioner and I am trained to level 3 BSL. I run JODIE & CO, a home for gentle rebellion, movement expression, and serious play. Soft uprisings. Quiet revolutions. You don’t need technique. You just need a body. Through autobiographical stories and community co-creation we create live performances and community experiences exploring the relationship between dance, disability, and joy.Credits include: Extraordinary Bodies, Diverse City, SLiDE, Kent Association for the Blind, LAMDA, Mountview, Step into Dance, BBC, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Camp Bestival, Gecko, New Adventures, and Good Chance Theatre
Margate Pro Class is aimed at those who have trained in dance/ theatre at higher education or further.
