We’re continuing our Mardi Cinéma cycle with another essential classic of French cinema: Que la bête meure by Claude Chabrol.
🎥 La cérémonie
Sophie, a quiet and reserved maid, is hired by a wealthy bourgeois family in the French countryside. Illiterate and secretive, she forms an unexpected bond with Jeanne, a rebellious and outspoken postal worker. As their friendship deepens, resentment toward the family grows, fueled by class tensions, misunderstandings, and unspoken frustrations. What begins as a subtle social drama slowly escalates into a chilling and explosive confrontation. With La Cérémonie, Chabrol delivers a sharp critique of social divides, wrapped in a tense and unsettling psychological thriller.
🎙️ Special Guest: A cinema expert will join us for a discussion after the screening.
