𝘀𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗮, 𝟳. - 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗸, 𝟵. 𝟭𝟬. 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
V cikel delavnic Research cycles po nekaj letih premora ponovno prihaja Marco de Ana, plesalec, koreograf, pedagog in glasbeni ustvarjalec, ki že več kot dve desetletji soustvarja nekatere pomembne premike sodobnega flamenka. Njegovo umetniško pot zaznamuje predvsem dolgoletno sodelovanje z Israelom Galvánom, s katerim je od leta 2002 ustvarjal in nastopal v projektih, ki so pustili pomembno sled v sodobnem razumevanju flamenka. V svojem pedagoškem delu Marco de Ana ne izhaja iz kopičenja korakov, temveč iz razumevanja notranje logike flamenka: odnosa med compásom, glasom, telesom, ritmom, dinamiko in trenutkom. Ples zanj ni nikoli ločen od glasbe. Koreografija se rojeva iz poslušanja, odzivanja in razumevanja glasbenega dogajanja.
Tokratne intenzivne delavnice bodo posvečene dvema izrazito različnima, a globoko povezanima svetovoma: Soleá in Cantiñas.
𝟭𝟴:𝟬𝟬 — 𝟭𝟵:𝟯𝟬: 𝗘𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮́ (NIŽJI NIVO)
Soleá velja za enega temeljnih stebrov petja in plesa flamenka. Gre za kompleksen in večplasten palo, v katerem se prepletajo različni ritmični poudarki, spremembe hitrosti, notranje napetosti in številne možnosti razvoja plesa. Na delavnici se bomo osredotočili na llamade, od osnovnih in preprostih do bolj kompleksnih, vendar jih ne bomo obravnavali kot izolirane plesne kombinacije, temveč kot del melodičnega loka petja. Osrednje vprašanja delavnice bodo:
Katera llamada pripada določenemu trenutku plesa in zakaj? Kako prepoznati trenutek, ko ples potrebuje spremembo? Kdaj zaključiti frazo? Kdaj pustiti glasbi prostor? Kako lahko izbira llamade spremeni ritem, dinamiko in dramaturgijo celotne koreografije?
Delo bomo začeli s kratko raziskavo osnovne ritmične strukture compása Soleá in metrike petja. Iz tega bomo postopoma gradili klasične llamade ter raziskovali tudi bolj osebne različice. Poseben poudarek bo na muzikalnosti, ritmični intuiciji in poslušanju. Za sodelovanje zato ni nujna vrhunska tehnična raven plesa; veliko pomembnejša sta želja po sposobnosti poslušanja in razvijanju občutek za ritem.
Delavnica je namenjena plesalcem osnovnega predznanja in začetnikom, ki želijo razumeti ne samo kaj plešejo, temveč predvsem kdaj, zakaj in v odnosu do česa določeno gibanje postane smiselno.
𝟭𝟵:𝟯𝟱 — 𝟮𝟭:𝟬𝟱: 𝗟𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻̃𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗶 (VIŠJI NIVO)
Na drugem delu delavnic bomo raziskovali palo Cantiñas del Pinini, tradicionalno melodijo, ki jo je ustvaril znameniti Fernando Peña Soto, bolj znan kot El Pinini, rojen leta 1863 v Lebriji v Španiji. Zanjo je značilna posebna kombinacija teže, melodije in ritma ter izraz, ki je hkrati prefinjen in zelo neposreden. Prav Cantiñas del Pinini so med različnimi interpretacijami tega pala za Marca de Ano osebno najzanimivejše, njihovo izročilo pa je v sodobnem flamenku močno zaznamoval eden njegovih zadnjih velikih interpretov, José Valencia.
Vsebina delavnice bo izhajala iz nekaterih značilnih pevskih kitic, salid del cante in rematejev ter jih prevajala v marcaje, korake in geste, ki s svojo zadržanostjo, obvladovanjem teže, drže in preprostosti ustvarijo več povednosti kot tehnično zahtevni koraki. Cilj se ne bo zgolj naučiti zgolj koreografskega materiala, temveč raziskovati pomembnost vpetosti giba v petje in povezanost z glasom. Ples v svoji vlogi poslušanja petja namreč ni v podrejenem položaju, temveč je njegov telesni podaljšek.
Za udeležbo je potrebno osnovno poznavanje plesa por Alegrías ter tehnična pripravljenost za gib flamenka.
𝗣𝗘𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗚
Marco de Ana je svojo profesionalno pot začel v najpomembnejših odrih tablaov v Španiji. Leta 2002 je na Bienalu flamenka v Sevilli debitiral v predstavi Galvánicas ob Israelu Galvánu. Od takrat je postal pomemben del Galvánovega ustvarjalnega kroga ter z njim sodeloval kot asistent koreografije in repetitor pri njegovih produkcijah. Vzporedno je razvijal lastno umetniško in koreografsko pot in tako v zadnjih dvanajstih letih ustvaril približno deset avtorskih predstav, ki so bile predstavljene na pomembnih festivalih in odrih v Španiji in širše, med drugim na Impulstanz Festivalu na Dunaju, Flamenco Festivalu v Düsseldorfu, Festivalu flamenka v Jerezu de la Frontera in Flamenco Biënnale na Nizozemskem. Med njegovimi avtorskimi deli so La Farruca del extrarradio (Secession, Dunaj), In-sis-tencia (D.ID Dance Identity), Paraíso in Solo – a working process (Tanzhaus NRW, Düsseldorf), Hay fuego en tus ojos, šest koreografij za Rosario Toledo, predstavljanih v okviru Festivala flamenka v Jerezu, Sinsonte, v grlu pozabljena pesem v sodelovanju z Urško Centa za bienalni festival Bi flamenko v Cankarjevem domu v Ljubljani ter Zgodbe o pticah v okviru cikla Noches de Tablao. Sodeloval je tudi pri številnih interdisciplinarnih projektih drugih vidnih umetnikov, med drugim s Pedrom G. Romerom pri projektih SalonUtopia v dunajski Secession in Kunstverein Baden-Württemberg ter La nuit flamenca v MACBA v Barceloni. Sodeloval je tudi pri projektu Aire del Mar Darcyja Langeja za Tabakalero v San Sebastiánu. Njegovo umetniško delo tako stoji na presečišču tradicije in sodobnega koreografskega mišljenja, med globokim poznavanjem jezika flamenka in nenehnim raziskovanjem njegovih možnosti.

𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟳 – 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
After several years, Marco de Ana returns to NEST’s Research Cycles, a workshop series dedicated to artistic research and the exploration of flamenco practices. A dancer, choreographer, teacher and musician, de Ana has been contributing to important developments in contemporary flamenco for more than two decades.
His artistic career has been particularly shaped by his long-standing collaboration with Israel Galván, with whom he has worked and performed since 2002, contributing to projects that have left a significant mark on contemporary understandings of flamenco. In his teaching practice, Marco de Ana does not approach flamenco as an accumulation of steps, but through an understanding of its inner logic: the relationship between compás, voice, body, rhythm, dynamics and timing. For him, dance is never separate from music. Choreography emerges through listening, responding and understanding what is happening within the music.
This intensive workshop will explore two distinctly different yet deeply interconnected worlds: Soleá and Cantiñas.
𝟭𝟴:𝟬𝟬 — 𝟭𝟵:𝟯𝟬: 𝗘𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮́ (BASIC LEVEL)
Soleá is considered one of the fundamental pillars of flamenco singing and dance. It is a complex and multilayered palo, where different rhythmic accents, changes of pace, inner tensions and numerous possibilities for the development of movement come together.
In this workshop, we will focus on llamadas, from the basic and simple to the more complex. They will not be approached as isolated dance combinations, but as part of the melodic arc of the cante. The central questions of the workshop will be:
Which llamada belongs to a particular moment in the dance, and why? How do we recognise the moment when the dance needs to change? When should a phrase come to an end? When should we leave space for the music? How can the choice of a llamada transform the rhythm, dynamics and dramaturgy of an entire choreography?
We will begin with a brief exploration of the basic rhythmic structure of the Soleá compás and the metre of the cante. From there, we will gradually build classical llamadas while also exploring more personal variations.
Particular emphasis will be placed on musicality, rhythmic intuition and listening. A high level of technical dance ability is therefore not required; much more important is an openness to listening and a desire to develop one's rhythmic awareness.
The workshop is intended for dancers with basic prior knowledge, as well as beginners, who want to understand not only what they are dancing, but above all when, why and in relation to what a particular movement becomes meaningful.
𝟭𝟵:𝟯𝟱 — 𝟮𝟭:𝟬𝟱: 𝗟𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻̃𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗶 (ADVANCED LEVEL)
The second workshop will explore Cantiñas del Pinini, a traditional melodic form associated with the renowned Fernando Peña Soto, better known as El Pinini, who was born in Lebrija, Spain, in 1863.
The style is characterised by a particular combination of weight, melody and rhythm, creating an expression that is both refined and deeply direct. Of the different interpretations of this palo, Cantiñas del Pinini are among those closest to Marco de Ana personally. Their tradition has been strongly shaped in contemporary flamenco by one of its last great interpreters, José Valencia.
The workshop will draw on characteristic letras, salidas del cante and remates, translating them into marcajes, steps and gestures. Through restraint, control of weight, posture and simplicity, these elements can create far greater expressive meaning than technically demanding steps.
The aim is not simply to learn choreographic material, but to explore the importance of embedding movement within the cante and developing a physical connection with the voice. In this approach, dance is not subordinate to singing. Through listening to the cante, the dancer becomes its physical extension — continuing, responding to and expanding the voice through the body.
Participants should have a basic knowledge of baile por Alegrías and a solid technical foundation in flamenco movement.
𝗣𝗘𝗗𝗔𝗚𝗢𝗚𝗨𝗘
Marco de Ana began his professional career performing at some of Spain’s most important tablaos. In 2002, he made his debut at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla in Galvánicas, alongside Israel Galván. From then on, he became an important member of Galván’s creative team, working as a choreographic assistant and repetiteur on his major productions.
Alongside this long-standing collaboration, he has developed an independent artistic and choreographic career. Over the past twelve years, he has created around ten original works presented at major festivals and venues in Spain and internationally, including Impulstanz Festival Vienna, Flamenco Festival Düsseldorf, Festival de Jerez and the Flamenco Biennale Netherlands.
His own works include La Farruca del extrarradio (Secession, Vienna), In-sis-tencia (D.ID Dance Identity), Paraíso and Solo – A Working Process (Tanzhaus NRW, Düsseldorf), Hay fuego en tus ojos, six choreographies created for Rosario Toledo and presented at the Festival de Jerez, Sinsonte, created in collaboration with Urška Centa for the Bi Flamenko Biennial Festival at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, and Historias de pájaros, presented as part of the Noches de Tablao series.
He has also collaborated on numerous interdisciplinary projects with prominent artists, including Pedro G. Romero on SalonUtopia at the Vienna Secession and Kunstverein Baden-Württemberg, and La nuit flamenca at MACBA in Barcelona. He also collaborated on Darcy Lange’s Aire del Mar for Tabakalera in San Sebastián.
His artistic practice stands at the intersection of tradition and contemporary choreographic thinking, grounded in a deep knowledge of flamenco language while continuously exploring its possibilities.
