About this Event
Maptime RI: QGIS night!
Whether you're a pro or just curious, MapTime is the perfect group to join to dive into all things maps. Expect good vibes, great chats, and maybe a beer or two.
This evening we're going to learn how to use the desktop GIS program called QGIS. It's like ArcGISPro but free and opensource. If you've never used QGIS before, be sure to come early to the orientation session. If you're more confident, join us at 7:00PM.
Bring your laptop and charger if you want to participate.
I'll be streaming on Twitch if you want to follow along remotely. https://www.twitch.tv/themapcenter
Agenda
🕑: 06:00 PM - 07:00 PM
Introduction for newbies
Info: Skip this part and show up at 7 if you've used QGIS before. This pre-event is to get acquainted with QGIS. Download the program (https://qgis.org/download/), learn some basic vocabulary and learn enough to be dangerous with the software.
🕑: 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM
Introduction of the Prompt, open mapping
Info: This is the general session for everyone. I'll present a theme for all of us to make maps based on. There is overflow space at Discipline Brewery downstairs and based on the interest online, I'm guessing most people will be down there. I'll be streaming my own mapping on Twitch if you want to follow along at a distance.
🕑: 09:00 PM - 09:30 PM
Everyone shows off their maps!
Info: You all made some weird maps! Seriously, you only had 2 hours. They're not going to be, like, good. But they will be fun and they will make you want to try more things. See what your new friends made!
