Nifs: Chaos and Poetry a Literary evening with Aphroconfuso
Date: 12th November
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Moderator: Joe Gatt
Details: Inspired by the works of Italian author Franco Berardi, this event aims to give his poetic work centre stage, whereby the act of ‘breathing’ is linked to grounding, and autonomy in an age of accelerated social relations, consumption of information and exchange of thoughts. Breathing: Chaos and Poetry is Franco “Bifo” Berardi's meditation on the intertwined crises of capitalism, language and the psyche. Beginning from the refrain “I can't breathe”, the book explores suffocation as the defining condition of the present and proposes poetry as a form of resistance and healing—an attempt to imagine new possibilities amid social, political and ecological chaos. During this evening, Karl Baldacchino, the translator of the book into Maltese, will provide an overview of work carried out, and the significance of cross-border literary collaborations in celebrating the arts, culture, and our most precious asset, humanity.
