This is a "mini" workshop/class/gathering. I've had many people wanting/needing a medicine bag so I decided to do a shortened version of the entire retreat that I have held before. It of course won't have all the elements however it will have the basics and you will have your medicine bag :-)
Medicine bags symbolize and maintain a relationship between the people and the spirit world. They are thought to have a strong tie to the owner and nature. Medicine bags contain items that symbolize personal well-being.
The gatherings that I do we typically put the four medicines in the bags. The "four medicines" are: tobacco, sweet grass, sage, and cedar. They may also contain a special token that signifies a special memory or person. In the workshop you will be adding these 4 sacred medicines. You will also be learning what the four medicines signify. You will be given a small item, from me, that represents this initial sacred blessing of your medicine bag.
I will have the kits for a basic medicine bag. At a later time you can personalize your bag with beads, braids, burn marks, stencils, paint, stain etc.
You will be sewing your own bag. :-)

A medicine bag to me is a sacred tool for life. They hold spiritual energy unique to the person that wears it. Using it in ceremonies brings more energy to the bag. Once you have your bag you have something that you will keep with you on your journey. They serve to stay connected to the spiritual world, honor your ancestors, and carry blessings.
