Want to make something a bit special?
Come and spend an evening with Z in the Attic creating your very own detachable statement collar from reclaimed denim, vintage buttons and British wool.
And yes, there’s a drink involved.
This is sewing with a difference. No sitting quietly making something beige and sensible. You’ll be creating a completely individual statement piece that can transform a simple outfit into something much more interesting.
Your collar. Your buttons. Your rules.
You’ll start with reclaimed denim and create a detachable collar that you can wear with shirts, jumpers, dresses, jackets, basically anything that needs a bit more you.
Then comes the fun bit.
You’ll choose from a selection of vintage buttons and other details to create your own design.
Every collar will be different because every maker will make different choices.
There’s no “correct” version.
What will you learn?
I’ll guide you through the process of:
- Working with reclaimed denim
- Creating and constructing your collar
- Adding your chosen details
- Working with vintage buttons
- Finishing your collar neatly
- Making design choices that turn a simple garment into something completely your own
You’ll have plenty of guidance throughout the evening, with time to experiment and make your collar properly yours.
No sewing experience?
This workshop is suitable for absolutely everyone-beginner to experts .
You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to be willing to have a go.
I’ll guide you through the sewing and construction, so you can concentrate on the fun part — choosing your buttons and creating something that looks like you.

Where is it?
The workshop takes place at The Button Warehouse, right opposite Z in the Attic in Macclesfield.
And it’s a particularly fitting venue- it used to be a Button factory! So we’ll be surrounded by button energy while creating something designed to show them off.

About Z in the Attic
I’m Zoë, the one-woman sewing machine behind Z in the Attic in Macclesfield.
I make colourful clothing and accessories from remnants, roll ends, deadstock and reclaimed fabrics, because I’d much rather turn beautiful leftovers into something useful than see them go to waste.
My workshops are relaxed, supportive and deliberately small. I want you to leave having learnt something, made something brilliant and actually enjoyed the process.

This workshop is part of the inaugural Macclesfield Textile Week, running from 19–27 September 2026.
Macclesfield has an extraordinary textile history, and Textile Week celebrates both that heritage and the brilliant creative community making things here today. (Silk Museum)
