About this Event

Join us at Novelette on Tuesday, December 15th at 6:30 pm when we have graphic novelist Malaka Gharib teach how to make a gift-shaped zine that you can give to a loved one as a present for the holidays! By the end of the class, you WILL have a completed zine. Come to the class with someone in mind. It makes the perfect holiday gift!


Tickets are required for this event; Spots are limited! Once this event fills up we will start a waitlist for anyone wanting to join in case spots open up. This is an all ages workshop, but all children under 14 must have an adult guardian accompanying them. Materials are included with your ticket.

Malaka Gharib is a journalist, cartoonist and graphic novelist.

She is the author of "I Was Their American Dream," a graphic memoir published in 2019 about being first-generation Filipino Egyptian American, which won an Arab American Book Award in 2020. In 2022, she published "It Won't Always Be Like This," a graphic memoir about her summers in the Middle East, which was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award.

Her comics, zines and writing have been published in the Los Angeles Times, Catapult, The Believer Magazine, The Nib, The Margins and The New Yorker. She has been profiled in and .
