The powerful characters of Jnanpith Award-winning writer Mahasweta Devi find their voice on stage in Savitri Medhatul’s experimental Marathi play.
Three characters from the world of Mahasweta Devi’s writing meet on stage in ‘Mahogatha’. Bringing together Draupadi, Budhan and Moyna from The Why-Why Girl, this award-winning Marathi drama weaves their stories into a compelling theatrical narrative commemorating the birth centenary of the legendary writer.
Written by Mumbai-based theatre-maker, researcher and filmmaker Savitri Medhatul and directed by Mangesh Chandrabhaga Satpute, the production features Hridaynath Jadhav, Savitri Medhatul, Mukti Sadhana and Vikram Hota. Medhatul portrays Draupadi, while Hota also composes the music.
Produced by Medhatul’s theatre company, Kali Billi Productions, ‘Mahogatha’ earned widespread recognition this June, emerging as one of the standout productions at the Natshreshtha Sharad Talwalkar Smriti Karandak competition in Pune, where it won seven awards.
