About this Event
Join artist Moriah Iverson to create a handmade illuminated lantern inspired by woodland forms, botanical shapes, and the magic of the forest. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sculptural lantern construction using reed, tissue paper, and simple paper techniques while creating a unique lantern to take home.
The workshop will cover lantern structure, shaping reed forms, paper application, decorative surface techniques, and LED illumination. Participants will have the opportunity to personalize their lanterns with layered tissue, cut-paper details, and forest-inspired imagery, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece that glows beautifully when lit.
No previous experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Lantern construction follows several steps that can be challenging for young makers - children under 12 will need the help of an accompanying parent, gaurdian, or other adult.
Participants are warmly invited (but not required) to carry their finished lanterns in the Magic Forest Community Lantern Parade at Zillman Park on Friday, October 30. The parade is an accessible, family-friendly community celebration of light, creativity, and autumn.
Space is limited, and attendance is free. If you cannot attend, please cancel your registration so we can make the space available to another participant.
