Join us for a special celebration marking the culmination of the Made in Buxton project, bringing together the stories, skills, crafts and industries that have shaped Buxton. This event will celebrate the creativity of participants and partners while exploring Buxton's rich heritage through exhibitions, displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities.Throughout the event, visitors will be able to discover the completed Sew Your Place artwork, and learn about traditional crafts, explore local manufacturing history. The event will highlight the diverse themes explored during the project and celebrate the connections between people, place and making.
You will see:
- Sew Your Place Exhibition featuring the final artwork and interpretation exploring the stories behind the project.
- When The Makory came to town: Discover what we learnt about the Bradda Beaver with milliner Clare Brown, including displays of cockades.
- Embellishing and Stitching, showcasing stitched photographs, tea towels and creative work produced by local makers.
- Button Making, exploring the history of button making alongside a display of examples.
- Rag Rugging, with demonstrations, examples and an opportunity to have a go.
- Weaving demonstrations and displays.
- Wooden Peg and Bobbin Stitching displays.
This event provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the project, celebrate the skills and stories uncovered along the way, and inspire future engagement with Buxton’s remarkable heritage and creative traditions.
Everyone is welcome, free to enter.
