What Is Macabre & Mahjong?
Macabre & Mahjong is an immersive evening of American Mahjong, gothicromance, spirited competition, and a little bit of mischief — set inside the historic Alexander Mansion in Old East Dallas.
Hosted by Whit & Whimsy Mahj × Mahj Champions, the evening brings together tournament play, social Mahjong, curated food and cocktails, prizes,shopping, and mystical activations for a one-night-only experience.

What should I know about the tournament?
Macabre & Mahjong follows American Mahjong using the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card, with
event-specific rules and scoring provided to players. A brief rules review will take place
before play begins at approximately 6:I0 PM. Multiple timed rounds with table rotation will run
until approximately 8:45 PM, followed by final scoring and the crowning of our winners.
Players should bring their 2026 NMJL card. We provide the tiles, racks, mats, tables, and
scorekeeping materials.
Is this a serious competitive tournament?
Competitive? Yes. Cutthroat? Never.
Macabre & Mahjong is a social tournament designed to bring together spirited competition and an
unforgettable evening at the mansion. We’re here to play great Mahjong, meet new tablemates,
enjoy the grand experience — and, of course, hopefully take home a coveted prize or two.
Good sportsmanship is expected at every table. Unsportsmanlike, disrespectful, or disruptive
behavior will not be tolerated. Guests who interfere with the enjoyment of other players or the
spirit of the event may be asked to leave without a refund.
Play to win. Be gracious. Have fun. And remember, it’s only deadly serious in theme.
What does my ticket include?
Your ticket includes access to the historic Alexander Mansion, Mahjong play, heavy hors
d’oeuvres, wine, champagne, signature Macabre cocktails, vendor shopping, special activations,
and opportunities to win prizes. Tournament tickets also include competitive tournament entry
and eligibility for tournament prizes.
Guests may also purchase raffle tickets for special prizes, with a portion of proceeds
benefiting the Dallas Woman’s Forum, which preserves and maintains Alexander Mansion.
What should I wear, and can I come alone?
Think gothic romance meets Dallas after dark. Cocktail attire is encouraged, with lace, velvet,
jewel tones, black, burgundy, vintage glamour, and a touch of the macabre very welcome.
Costumes are optional. Our event is inspired by gothic literature and classic elegance rather
than a traditional Halloween party.
Coming solo? Absolutely. Tournament players rotate throughout the evening, so you don’t need to
arrive with a group. Friends are welcome, though tournament seating and specific tablemates
cannot be guaranteed. Our Four of Fate table option is available for those who want to
experience the evening together.
What are the age, ticket, and arrival policies?
Macabre & Mahjong is a 21+ event due to alcohol service. Parking and arrival instructions will
be sent to registered guests before the event.
All ticket sales are final. Transfers may be permitted before the event; please contact us to update the guest list. Advance purchase is strongly recommended, as capacity is limited and door sales are not guaranteed if the event sells out.
