Coming Home Inc. is a 100% volunteer-operated nonprofit serving veterans and their families in Eastern Idaho. Our mission is simple, but deeply meaningful: Connecting veterans and community through service and love, to heal and unite.Our story began with our family and the loss of our beloved brother, Ben Gomm, an Army National Guard veteran who served with the 116th Infantry during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ben was the kind of person who would help a stranger change a tire, lend a hand to someone in need, or treat a friend like family. But behind the kindness and laughter, he was fighting battles of his own.
After losing Ben in 2018 following his struggles with PTSD and anxiety, our family felt compelled to turn our grief into something that could help others. Coming Home Inc. was created in his memory, with a promise that other veterans in our community would know they are not alone.
We understand that coming home isn’t always easy. A veteran may return to familiar surroundings, but adjusting to civilian life, navigating the challenges that follow military service, and finding people who understand their experiences can be difficult. We believe that support shouldn’t end when military service does.
That’s why we focus on supporting the whole person — physically, mentally, and socially.
Through free monthly camaraderie events, veterans have the opportunity to share a meal, build friendships, and connect with others who understand their experiences. We organize community service projects that give veterans opportunities to serve alongside one another and rediscover the purpose and connection that service can bring. We also help veterans and their families through household projects, cleaning and yard work, care packages for deployed service members, and access to free PTSD counseling and treatment support.
Our work is rooted in a simple belief: sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. A shared meal, a helping hand, a meaningful conversation, or a friendship formed at the right time can remind someone that they matter and that they have a community standing beside them.
As a 100% volunteer-operated organization, we work hard to make every donated dollar count toward supporting local veterans and their families. We are proud to partner with local businesses, community members, and volunteers who believe that caring for those who have served is a responsibility we share.
Financial support allows us to continue creating opportunities for connection, providing practical assistance, and expanding the ways we show up for veterans throughout Eastern Idaho. It helps us turn gratitude into action — not just through words, but through consistent, tangible support.
Our goal is not simply to help veterans return to the place they once lived. We want to help them find a place where they feel safe, valued, supported, and truly at home.
Ben’s life reminded us how much one person can give to others. Through Coming Home Inc., we hope to carry that spirit forward, one veteran, one family, and one act of service at a time.
