About this Event
Welcome to the Lunar New Year & Solar Terms event at the San Francisco Public Library! Did you know why Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival? And why are potted orchids must-have home decorations during the Lunar New Year? Let’s get the answers to these questions and more in the book talk by Crystal Tai, a Stanford alum and the author of Seasonal Living with Splendid Poetry. The bilingual book features the 24 solar terms, essentially micro-seasons, which have been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2016. Please join us for a delightful and insightful presentation on the 24 solar terms that have given seasonal living tips to the Chinese for thousands of years and still can bring health benefits as well as environmental awareness today. This is a family friendly event. The book and slides with many colorful images will appeal to children. Pre-teens (ages 10-12) may especially find the full-color book fascinating. We welcome your whole family!
