Cuarta Ultra Latino Eco Aventura | 4th Latino Ultra Nature Adventure

LUNA is a culturally rooted trail run and hike for first-timers and ultrarunners alike. Hosted by Latinos and open to everyone, LUNA builds physical and mental health through a mix of athletics, awe-inspiring nature, and forest bathing, and it promotes human–nature connection for communities historically excluded from outdoor sports.

Trail and ultrarunning events have traditionally been curated for athletes, anchored in competition and driven by an exclusive sports culture. LUNA reframes the ultra experience. Families can run or walk the 5K together. Marathoners run the same trails, and everyone shares the start line, the blessing and the finish.

Choose your distance. All distances start together at 8:00 AM on Boulder County Open Space trails among ponderosa pine and open meadow. Walk, hike or run; there is no pace requirement, only a course cutoff.

  • 5K · cutoff 12:00 PM · families, first-timers, walkers
  • 7 miles · cutoff 1:00 PM · a real trail loop with rolling climbs
  • 15 miles · cutoff 2:00 PM · long, gorgeous and honest about the altitude
  • Marathon (26 miles) · cutoff 6:00 PM · the LUNA marathon, shared with everyone

Lorena Ramírez runs with us again. LUNA IV welcomes back the legendary Rarámuri ultrarunner, who ran the first two LUNAs in her huaraches and skirt. Her participation embodies resilience, ancestral wisdom and the profound connection between breath, movement, land and healing.

Part of Americas Latino Eco Festival XIV. LUNA IV is the day the festival takes its lungs to the mountains. ALEF XIV, Aire Limpio: A People's Roadmap for Clean Air, runs all of Earth Month 2027 and includes the Clean Air Summit (April 8), Family Festival Day (April 11) and Miyawaki school forests planted in frontline communities. Full program at www.afcanatura.org.

Why a trail run is a public health program. Every LUNA opens with a forest-bathing circle. Twenty to thirty minutes among trees lowers stress hormones, heart rate and blood pressure; three hours a week sustains the benefit for up to a week. Evergreens produce the most phytoncides, the airborne compounds behind these effects, which is why LUNA runs through ponderosa.

Fees and donations. LUNA is a nonprofit event intent on bridging inclusion gaps in outdoor recreation. We ask a nominal registration fee. Youth 16 and under pay no fee but must register. Every participant is invited to add a tax-deductible donation that funds the free youth entries, the promotoras who guide the forest-bathing circle, and the staff and volunteers who make the day.

Getting there. Do not drive to Meyers Gulch Trailhead; parking is off-site. Shuttle and parking instructions are emailed to registered participants the week of the event.

Past editions. LUNA I: 238 participants, 83% BIPOC. LUNA II: 269 participants, 80% BIPOC. LUNA III: sold out at the permit cap of 160, 60% BIPOC. LUNA has been recognized by Governor Jared Polis with an official proclamation for advancing outdoor equity, conservation engagement and inclusive recreation in Colorado.

LUNA is an initiative of Americas for Conservation, Health + the Arts (AFC+A) and CREA Results, supported by CDPHE and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
