90 vuotta sitten heinäkuussa 1936 oikeiston vallankaappausyritys Espanjan toista tasavaltaa vastaan epäonnistui. Tasavallan hallitus romahti, mutta työväenluokka kukisti kaappaajat Espanjan suurimmissa kaupungeissa, ja lähes kolme vuotta kestänyt verinen sisällissota alkoi. Hallitsemillaan alueilla Espanjan työläisten järjestöt, vallankumouksellinen syndikalistinen CNT, anarkistinen FAI ja sosialistinen UGT haltuunottivat vallankaappausta tukeneen porvariston maat ja tuotantolaitokset, ja loivat historian merkittävimmän antiautoritaarisen sosialistisen itsehallintokokeilun.
Antti Rautiainen kertoo Espanjan anarkistisen ja syndikalistisen liikkeen historiasta ja järjestäytymisestä, tuotannon haltuunotosta Espanjassa ja siitä kuinka se erosi sosialismin autoritaarisista versioista. Luentosarjan toisessa osassa keväällä 2027 käsitellään niitä ongelmia, joihin anarkistien pyrkimys tasavallan antifasistiseen yhtenäisyyteen törmäsi sen pyrkiessä luovimaan autoritaarisen sosialismin ja fasismin luomassa äärimmäisessä ristipaineessa.

Lecture: The Spanish Revolution
At Lymy (Pengerkatu 6), Sunday, October 4. Doors open at 4:00 PM, lecture starts at 4:15 PM.
90 years ago, in July 1936, a right-wing coup attempt against the Second Spanish Republic failed. The Republican government collapsed, but the working class defeated the coup forces in Spain’s largest cities, and a bloody civil war lasting almost three years began. In the areas under their control, Spanish workers’ organisations — the revolutionary syndicalist CNT, the anarchist FAI and the socialist UGT — took over the land and means of production belonging to the bourgeoisie that had supported the coup, creating the most significant experiment in anti-authoritarian socialist self-government in history.
Antti Rautiainen will talk about the history and organisation of the Spanish anarchist and syndicalist movements, the takeover of production in Spain, and how it differed from authoritarian versions of socialism. The second part of the lecture series, in spring 2027, will examine the problems that arose from the anarchists’ pursuit of anti-fascist unity within the Republic, as they attempted to navigate the extreme pressures created by authoritarian socialism and fascism.
The presentation will be in Finnish, with interpretation into English if needed.
The Spanish Revolution is also the subject of the film Land and Freedom, which will be screened in memory of Jarmo Rissanen at Meidän tila (Mäkelänkatu 52A) on September 14 at 6:45 PM:
