LUCAS ABELA aka JUSTICE YELDHAM (https://granpa.bandcamp.com)
Australian maverick experimentalist Lucas Abela (Dual Plover) returns to Toronto for the first time in almost 20 years. Easily be one of the most captivating, ecstatic & intense performers around. Abela creates dynamic noise compositions on an amplified piece of glass driven through effects reacting to liquid & pressure. Going from shrill shrieks to wobbling synth like tones to abrasive guitar shred territory, his control is uncanny. He plays broken glass like Keiji Haino, Bill Orcutt or even Hendrix approach the guitar. Layered modulation lets the Coltrane-esque cries mimic and dance with themselves as Abela coaxes a versatile sonic array from the glass pane. New collaborative 7" with Zach Hill (Death Grips) out for this tour! Don't miss this rare performance by an avant garde legend!
BRIAN RURYK (https://brianrruryk.bandcamp.com)
Toronto avant garde anti-legend Brian Ruryk is easily one of the city's best kept secrets, Ruryk has been manipulating the concepts of sound since the 80s. Free jangled guitar notes spray over a live collage of junk percussion & chaos. Tape samples squeal out amongst herky jerky clatter of Ruryk’s eclectic set up. Much like the coming together of puzzle pieces in a way in which they do not fit, then experiencing the process in which the puzzler, instead of sorting the pieces, just cuts & mangles them to create a new image.
DEPRIVATION TACTICS (https://deprivationtactics.bandcamp.com)
Andrew Cleveland's (Holy Grinder) solo harsh noise project drops you into the sonic hellscape of some multiplayer first person shooter where no one has the patience or skill to headshot, but instead is just shooting as fast as possible. Grizzly distortion rattles underneath the sound of incessant curdled lazer blasts. Caustic electronic wall noise pepper with dynamic blasts, broken treble leaks from crunching bass gurgles.
MIRA MARTIN-GRAY (https://miramartingray.bandcamp.com)
Electronic experimenter & improvisor Mira Martin-Gray creates haunting & dynamic soundscapes with no-input mixer, synth, and electro-acoustic elements. Mira's musical output varies from avant songs to electronic noise full of flitting harsh blips and bloops, stuck in the sonic aspic with held over tones that waver and then melt away. Sounding like some NES motorcycle on its last legs but still ripping it, Mira smacks skronked out electronic busted muffler music into a brick wall until the game is over. Come on time to check the glitch!
