Come celebrate one year of regular Sacred Harp singing in Lubbock! A special potluck singing will be held for our Founding Day during our weekly singing at 4PM Sunday Nov. the 8th. It will be a special time. All Sacred Harp singings are free and open to the public, no experience necessary! It is a very beginner-friendly environment.
We will sing from the 2025 Edition; loaner books will be available, and a number of books will be available for purchase at cost.
A how-to session will be held at 3:45PM for those who would like to learn to sing shape notes.
If you would like, you are welcome to bring a potluck dish, though it is not required.
For those interested, Sacred Harp singing has had a presence in West Texas since at least 1892 (Motley Co. Singing Convention; Whiteflat, TX), and records of travelling singers from Lubbock since 1905. In 2025, a weekly singing was planted to revive and revitalize this rich tradition of a capella music in this region. In June of 2026, Lubbock held its first Sacred Harp Convention which drew 112 singers from across the nation to sing this music. Lubbock continues to hold a Sacred Harp singing every Sunday, and has planned its next large convention for June 12-13 of 2027.
