About this Event

Love Your Wetlands Day is an opportunity to explore UC San Diego’s protected Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay while also learning about the importance of coastal wetlands, the climate threats they face, and the ways local communities are working to restore and protect them.

Uniquely located in the densely populated urban area, Kendall-Frost Marsh is a valuable laboratory and popular component of UC Nature, a library of ecosystems throughout California representing most of the state's major habitats. Kendall-Frost Marsh is also the backbone of the newly-approved City park plan with hundreds of acres for restored wetland habitat; come learn more details and how to help.

Activities will take place throughout the day and are family friendly (no reservations required for all activities but kayaking; first come, first served at the event):

  • Guided marsh cleanups
  • Guided birding
  • Booths from environmental organizations
  • Educational presentations by local scientists
  • Speeches by elected officials, and cultural activities with Indigenous leaders
  • Fish seining
  • Kayak cleanup

The event will run from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Please note: NO PETS ALLOWED AT THE EVENT. A service dog trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability will be permitted in portions of the event space and must remain on a leash at all times. Please reach out to [email protected] for questions about disability accommodations.

Minors can not participate without a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

This public acknowledgment serves to honor and respect Indigenous peoples and their land on which our campus resides. UC San Diego was built upon the territory of the Kumeyaay Nation. From time immemorial, the Kumeyaay people have been a part of this land. Today, the Kumeyaay people continue to maintain their political sovereignty and cultural traditions as vital members of the San Diego community.
