Los Vega Son JarochoWed, April 14, 7:30 PM
The Shedd Institute, Eugene, OR
Los Vega Son Jarocho are among the leading performers of son jarocho, the traditional music of southern Veracruz, which blends Indigenous, African, and Spanish Baroque influences. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, this intergenerational ensemble performs on jarana jarocha—a consort of many-sized guitars—while singing nostalgic, hypnotic, and joyfully humorous songs.
Los Vega Son Jarocho have performed at major cultural festivals and venues across Mexico, as well as in the United States, Canada, China, and Colombia. Their music has been featured in film, including a recording of “La Bruja” for the Oscar-nominated soundtrack of Frida (2001). In 2019, they received another Oscar nomination through the Lunas del Auditorio.
Join us for Dinners At Six before the show!
Thank you to our sponsors The Law Office of Lourdes Sanchez, King Estate, and The Eye Center for this performance.
