Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Senior Manager of Provenance Research Karen Daly will discuss art looted during World War II on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Piedmont Arts. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the talk will begin at 7 p.m.
Issues of looted art and restitution, particularly art misappropriated during World War II, remain prevalent in art news coverage and important concerns for museums worldwide. This talk provides a historical overview of art looting, the museum community's response, how recovery and restitution efforts have evolved to the present day, and a discussion of VMFA’s experiences resolving multiple art restitution claims.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
