I'll begin by introducing you to the fundamentals of watercolor, including the real differences between papers, brushes, and paints—and why those choices matter. Through a series of guided exercises, you'll build confidence while learning how watercolor behaves: how it blooms, blends, softens, and creates luminous transitions simply by working with water instead of against it.
Throughout the class, I'll demonstrate techniques for creating softness, transparency, depth, and expressive brushwork, while helping you recognize those moments when watercolor begins to move on its own.
Once you've become comfortable with the medium, you'll have your choice of several Georgia O'Keeffe watercolor studies, each selected for its loose, expressive beauty. Select the one that speaks to you, then use it as inspiration to create your own luminous interpretation. Rather than copying a painting exactly, you'll focus on capturing the feeling, movement, and simplicity that make her studies so powerful.
This class is about learning the language of watercolor—how it flows, settles, blends, surprises, and breathes. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of the medium, a finished painting, and the confidence to continue exploring watercolor in a more intuitive way.
