Online Lecture + Hands-On Workshop at Rattlesnake Lake

Discover how to transform time, movement, and light into striking fine art photographs with Fine Art Photographer Thibault Roland.

This two-part workshop begins with an online session exploring the concepts, creative approach, and techniques behind long exposure photography, followed by an immersive hands-on field workshop at Rattlesnake Lake.

Surrounded by water, forest, mountains, and dramatic natural formations, Rattlesnake Lake provides an incredible setting to put these techniques into practice. Thibault will guide participants through composing a scene, selecting exposure times, working with ND filters, and using movement to create atmospheric, minimal, and expressive images.

Time permitting, Thibault will also demonstrate infrared photography for those interested in exploring another creative approach to fine art image-making.

Whether you’re new to long exposure or looking to refine your technique, this workshop is an opportunity to slow down, experiment, and rethink the way you capture a landscape.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Intermediate-Advanced. Attendees should have an understanding of ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, as well as navigating their camera.

WHY LONG EXPOSURE?

Photography can freeze a fraction of a second—but it can also reveal something our eyes cannot see.

Long exposure photography stretches time within a single frame, transforming moving water into smooth surfaces, clouds into sweeping streaks, and wind-blown trees into expressive forms. Instead of simply documenting a scene, you can interpret it.

It’s a technique that encourages a different way of seeing: slower, more intentional, and deeply creative. By combining movement, composition, light, and time, long exposure allows photographers to create images that move beyond documentation and into the realm of fine art.
