The London Handel Players bring to Morpeth a selection of their favourite gems from the baroque period from across Europe.
Bach’s exquisite organ trios were written for the composer to play himself, the three parts divided between his two hands and the pedals. Here one of them is arranged for flute, violin and continuo as is Handel’s heart-rending aria, Se pietà, from his famous opera Giulio Cesare. The Quantz and Leclair sonatas were written by virtuosi flute and violin players respectively whilst the Vivaldi is a compact chamber concerto, a delicate and intimate slow movement standing between two exciting fast movements. The programme is completed by a beautiful Telemann quartet which offers dialogue between four voices, the viola da gamba treated here as a soloist independent from the bass line.
