Come check out Lokie Band on Thursday Oct 29th at 2pm. This is the first band we book during the day on a Thursday so hopefully we can continue in the future.
Bio of Lokie Band
Smokey who is our lead guitarist, lead vocals and harmonies
started his musical career at a very young age. He began
playing guitar at 8 years old and then made his first $15 as a
“professional” musician, at the age of 14. Drawing on
musical influences from his family (who were avid
musicians) he played in a family band for a few years before
branching out on his own, learning the bass guitar and
playing in a number of bands for 50 plus years, mostly
concentrating on rock and top 40 music. About 15 years ago
he said adieu to his bass and picked up his guitar again and
created our band “Lokie.” Although he is proficient at
playing bass guitar, electric guitar, and harmonica, his first
love is acoustic guitar.
Pat plays rhythm guitar as well as lead vocals and
harmonies. Pat was also drawn to music due to her family
influences and sang with the family band that her father put
together, called “Wilf and his all stars” when she was 13
years old. This of course included brother Smokey. She then
put her music on hold to raise her family and support her
husband Joe Rheault’s musical career. In the early 2000’s
Pat, her husband Joe and brother Smokey started a band
together called “Low Key”. Pat mostly sang harmonies. The
band stopped when Joe passed away in 2011, but brother
Smokey took over and in 2012 with his influence and
mentoring helped Pat learn to play guitar and improve on
her vocals.
In 2013 we had our first concert at the Valley Community
Theatre which Smokey founded back in 1999. There we two
other concerts at the theatre in 2016 and 2022. We played for
Capreol Days several times, outdoor events at the Capreol
Railroad Museum, the Capreol Legion, an event at
“Freskiw’s” and various other outdoor events.
We then put together our band “LOKIE” which was
comprised of Smokey, Pat, and Adrian who is a great friend
and bass player, we started playing at several senior’s
centres. We are the first to bring in a full band to entertain
seniors. At that time, we had an electronic drum machine.
Unfortunately, Adrian was not able to continue playing with
us and two years ago, we brought in Bob on drums and
Roger on bass.
Bob is an accomplished drummer and vocalist. He began his
drumming career at the very early age of 13. Bob has played
with many exceptional bands and musicians over the past 60
plus years mostly playing country and rock and roll, but has
picked up many current top 40 songs in his repertoire. He
joined in with “Lokie” to play several gigs over the past 9
years and recently in 2023 joined the band permanently. We
love having a real drummer in the band.
Roger is our current bass player. He also began his musical
career at a young age. Roger played bass for over 40 plus
years with his wife Lise in a variety of bands, that even
included guess who, Smokey. They played heavy metal and
rock music. Then a number of years ago he had put his bass
away, but has recently picked it up again to join our band
and we are happy he did. This is quite a change of venue for
Roger as our band plays a variety of different music, ranging
from top 40, rock and roll, and a little country.
We are looking forward to playing at Cousin Vinny’s and
want to thank Chris for giving us this opportunity to
entertain you and do hope you enjoy our music.
