Previously the home of Robert Burns, Lochlea Distillery grows their barley on the farm which Burns himself toiled when he lived at Lochlea. Headed by master blender John Campbell (previously of Laphroaig,) Lochlea meticulously produces the highest quality spirit which they then mature in the finest casks. From the Lochlea team - "Burns toiled the same soil that we are privileged to grow our malting barley in today. We'd like to think he would approve."
About our special guest Larry Weil, Lochlea Commercial Director:
Larry Weil is a French and British spirits professional based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He grew up internationally, moving between several countries in Europe and the US, which probably explains why international markets have always felt like a natural fit. He later studied at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, before beginning his career at Nestlé, where he worked in marketing on chocolate brands, a role that suited his sweet tooth rather well.
Larry moved into the whisky industry in 2004 and has since held senior international commercial roles with Morrison Bowmore, Beam Global, Edrington, and Ian Macleod Distillers. Over that time, he has worked across a wide range of markets, building distributor partnerships and developing premium spirits brands around the world. In May 2026, he joined Lochlea Distillery as Commercial Director, leading Lochlea’s commercial function, covering sales and marketing across the UK and international markets.
Outside of work, Larry enjoys cooking, theatre, and travel, although the first two are not always entirely compatible with early morning flights! He is excited to share Lochlea with US consumers because it is one of those rare Scotch whiskies that has a genuinely easy story to tell: a family-owned, single estate farm distillery in Ayrshire, growing its own barley, distilling and maturing on site, and making whisky with real character, charm and a proper sense of place. In other words, it is not a whisky that needs a complicated explanation, just a glass, a good conversation and maybe a little Scottish weather for context.
