About this Event
Join us for a two hour workshop in the Walthamstow Wildside Community Garden - behind Community Sauna Baths - on May 3 from 2-4pm (there is an identical AM workshop running from 11am-1pm with a seperate event listing).
We will learn to process the raw clay I have foraged from Walthamstow into a usable slip (liquid clay, we can 'paint' with!)
We will learn to handbuild plates by rolling out slabs and using molds.
We will decorate using traditional slipware techniques.
We will make in the tradition of slipware; conjure folkloric imagery that remember the earth.
You are welcome to bring your own plate as a mold, max.25cm diameter please. (I will need to take your mold with me to my studio to safely transport your piece. You can collect it alongside your fired ceramic.)
NOTE: There is an additional optional firing cost of £10 if you would like to keep your piece. This can be paid at the end of the workshop. Work will be collectable from the gardens after 1 month.
ANOTHER NOTE: Workshops will happen in all weather conditions! Whilst there will be shelter if necessary, we will still be mostly outside in the garden, exposed to the elements. Please dress for rain or shine, hot or cold :p
