ABOUT:
Need a break from doomscrolling? Acclaimed L.A. swing band, Lizzy & the Triggermen, offer the perfect musical antidote for these crazy times.
Who would have guessed swing music would be topping the charts in 2026? Meet Lizzy & the Triggermen, the 10-piece jazz band who is ushering in the next swing revival. Just this year, they have garnered over 21 million views across social media.
They specialize in "Resistance Swing" which marries the sound of big band with the attitude of punk rock. They are somehow able to take the troubles of today and turn them into joyous dance songs that recharge the spirit the way only a wailing horn section can. After all, swing music was born out of hard times (the Great Depression, WWII, the rise in authoritarianism) and was meant to give people hope.
What you will not hear: "In the Mood." What you *will* hear is swinging tunes about everything from gaslighting exes to evil tech bros and A.I. slop to even a multi-movement rhapsody about Lizzy's internet shopping addiction. As NPR raves, they are "one part Eartha Kitt, one part Ella Fitzgerald, one part Amy Winehouse."
The band went viral multiple times this year for their cover of a forgotten Irving Berlin gem he wrote in 1941 about Hitler called "When That Man Is Dead and Gone" which was shared wildly across the internet, including in Paul Krugman's Substack!
The group features some of the top musicians in jazz with arrangements by Dan Barrett (who played lead trombone with Benny Goodman) and songwriting by Lizzy Shaps (whose wicked wit garnered 2 Emmy nominations and shows at HBO and Legendary with Ben Stiller). They have topped the iTunes Jazz charts in numerous countries, including the U.S. and Australia, and headlined some of the top venues in the country.
Lizzy & the Triggermen make their Belly Up debut on Thursday, October 29th, with an opening set by multi-Grammy winner Grey Delisle and the Blue Ribbon Boys. There will be a large, designated dance floor. Purchase your ticket here.
