What if you could step back into 1784 for a day?On Saturday, September 19, the grounds of Historic Rock Castle will be transformed as historical reenactors, craftspeople, musicians, and demonstrators bring the sights, sounds, skills, and stories of the 18th century to life.
Rather than simply reading about history, you’ll get to experience it all around you.
Watch a blacksmith at work, meet a longhunter and fur trader, and see the intricate work of lace-making and paper filigree art. Discover how freshly sheared wool transforms through dyeing using materials found in nature and is then woven to become the fabrics we live in. Meet goats, chickens, and sheep, learn the steps of an 18th-century dance, and see the trades and skills that were part of everyday life on the early Tennessee frontier.
For one Saturday, Rock Castle becomes more than a historic place to visit. It becomes a landscape filled with the people, trades, animals, music, and traditions that help us better understand life on the American frontier, and how we can learn from it for today.
