About this Event
Course Outline
Moving from SDI to IP changes how media facilities transport content, synchronize systems, and connect production resources. This two-day course takes you from essential networking concepts to the standards and technologies behind modern live production.
On Day 1, build your foundation in IP networking: physical connections, addressing, routing, multicast, and the protocols that support communication. On Day 2, connect those fundamentals to media transport, SMPTE ST 2110, timing with PTP, control with NMOS, and the evolution toward Dynamic Media Facilities.
Whether you are preparing for an IP transition, supporting an existing facility, or refreshing your technical knowledge, you will develop a clearer understanding of the systems you work with and the decisions ahead. Each day concludes with dedicated time for questions and discussion.
What you will learn
By the end of the course, you will be better equipped to:
- Explain the drivers, opportunities, and challenges of moving from SDI to IP-based production.
- Describe how networking layers, addressing, routing, and multicast support media workflows.
- Understand how audio and video are packetized, transported, and reconstructed.
- Explain the roles of SMPTE ST 2110, PTP, and NMOS—and how they work together.
- Discuss the concepts behind Dynamic Media Facilities and their relationship to the Media eXchange Layer (MXL).
Who should attend?
This course is designed for broadcast and media engineers, technical operations staff, systems integrators, IT and network professionals working with media, and technical managers involved in production infrastructure.
It is particularly relevant to professionals moving from SDI-based environments to IP, as well as those seeking a structured refresher that connects networking fundamentals with media applications.
