Little Forests Durham - Mini Forest Planting Day @ Windsor Bay Park, Whitby
Little Forests Durham is pleased to announce a new and exciting partnership with the Town of Whitby, the local community and Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, to plant a Miyawaki style Mini-Forest in south Whitby!
Description: Join us for a fun day of tree planting at Windsor Bay Park in Whitby! Help establish the mini-forest site by planting 300 native trees and shrubs. This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, connect with nature, and make a positive impact on the environment. No experience necessary, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get your hands dirty!
Date: Saturday, October 3, 2026
Location: 301 Front Street East, Whitby, ON, L1N 9S4
Time: 9 am
What will we be doing:
We'll be planting about 300 native trees and shrubs in the 100 metre squared prepared site. The cardboard, compost, and mulch that was laid down in June has been allowed to decompose, creating a nutrient-rich site for the trees and shrubs. Planting is the final step to establish a Miyawaki-style mini-forest on this site. With care and weeding over the next two to three years, this new mini-forest will thrive and increase local biodiversity!
What is a Mini Forest?
A mini-forest is a densely planted community of native trees and plants in an area typically the size of a tennis court. Mini forests tend to grow faster, sequester more carbon, and promote more biodiversity than conventionally planted urban trees. Learn more at www.littleforestsdurham.ca
No experience necessary and all ages are welcome!
