If you’ve never been to Little Falls Trail in the Santa Lucia Wilderness between Lopez Lake and Rinconada, you’ve missed out! Here’s a trail work day that can get you there, and help others get there and beyond. BCH Los Padres Unit members and LPFA members will take up tools for a first-in-a-very-long-time trail maintenance day on this route. There is no experience necessary to join this project!Little Falls is a 2.7-mile trail that climbs from the depths of Upper Lopez Canyon to Hi Mountain Road. Along the way, you’ll find a not-so-little waterfall and great swimming hole, shaded nooks and wonderful views.
Volunteers should come prepared with: long sleeves, long pants, sturdy shoes, sun protection, eye protection (sunglasses OK), WORK GLOVES, and enough food and water for yourself for the day. LPFA will be providing tools and hardhats for everyone. Work will be focused on brushing and tread repair.
If you’ve never been to this part of the forest, now you have a great excuse to visit! And if you have, what a great excuse to return! RSVP here and organizers will follow up closer to the event with more details.
The plan is to meet at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Hi Mountain and Upper Lopez Canyon roads east of Arroyo Grande (35.1865111, -120.4438773) for safety talk, then carpool up to trailhead to work until 2 p.m. or so with return to the intersection by 4 p.m. If enough people show, the group will may divide to also work Big Falls Trail. The more the merrier!
