About this Event
There’s a song that still takes you back to someone. Or somewhere.
Bring it.
I’m BSP, an artist with synesthesia. When I hear music, I see colours. It’s a rare neurological condition, and it’s how I’ve always experienced the world. I’ve performed this way at the Venice Biennale and Tate Modern. On Sunday evenings, I open my home studio in Ribeira Brava to six people.
How the evening goes
Before we meet, you send me your song. Everyone’s song goes into one playlist. If you’d rather keep yours anonymous, you can.
We listen together. I show you how I see sound as colour, so you can find your own way in. Then you paint how each song feels, with brushes, fingers, pigment. Sooner or later, your song comes on. Some people wait for that moment all evening.
Sometimes people cry. Sometimes they get up and dance.
At the end, everyone turns their painting around and shares what they heard. Most people arrive a little shy. They leave talking like old friends.
There’s a glass of wine and an aperitivo made with vegetables from my garden and eggs from my hens. Soft drinks too.
“The workshop’s unique blend of art and music provided me with a fresh perspective on self-expression.” — AJ, past participant.
