Next in Melbourne Civic Theatre’s series of new play readings will be LINDA VISTA, by playwright Tracy Letts, on Saturday, October 24th at 2 p.m. at MCT in downtown Melbourne.Bringing this dramatic comedy to life will be Steven Costner, Jem Rajack, Amanda Telebrico, Alex Jackson, Rhonda Wise, Pete Jacobsen, and Jessica Foix.
The Story: Wheeler is 50. His marriage is over, his job is mundane, and the best years of his life appear to be behind him. A move from the cot in his ex-wife’s garage to his own apartment opens up new possibilities for love and sex—complicated, painful and hilarious. Full of opinions, yet short on self-examination, Wheeler must reconcile the man he has become with the man he wants to be.
With scorched-earth takes on modern relationships, marriage, and politics, LINDA VISTA is definitely R-rated and not for the easily offended – in other words, just exactly the cutting edge kind of play this play-reading series was meant to offer.
Tracy Letts also wrote THE MINUTES, a surprise hit of MCT’s 2023-24 season, and was awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play August: Osage County, which played on Broadway for over a year and won five Tony Awards (including Best Play).
Tickets for LINDA VISTA are $15, and will go on sale on Tuesday, October 15th. They can be purchased online at mymct.org.
Linda Vista opened on Broadway in October of 2019. Here are some excerpts from what the critics had to say:

“Knowing, prickly, and altogether hilarious… The dialogue is razor sharp and positively laced with laughter… a strong, warmly human and emotionally satisfying comedy of crotchety manners.” – New York Stage Review
“Letts excels at character, dialogue and psychology – the fundamentals of dramatic construction.” – The Los Angeles Times
“Clever and entertaining chronicle of a mid-life trainwreck.” – The Hollywood Reporter
“Reinvents the midlife crisis play with a hilarity that scalds.” – The New York Times
