Walking Chicago's Historic Lincoln Park!
What do two swans, historic animal houses, hidden gardens, scenic lagoons, and Chicago's breathtaking lakefront all have in common? Come find out on a relaxed guided walking tour through Lincoln Park Zoo and the larger Lincoln Park landscape — one of Chicago's most beloved and historically rich public spaces!
✨ We'll start inside Lincoln Park Zoo — one of the few remaining free zoos in the country — exploring its historic animal houses, habitats, gardens, and lagoons. Then we'll venture beyond the zoo into the larger Lincoln Park landscape, uncovering rustic structures, scenic ponds, memorials, and hidden gems that most people walk right past. Along the way we'll discover how a pair of swans helped launch Lincoln Park Zoo in 1868 — and how a former cemetery became one of Chicago's most beloved public landscapes. 💫

🌟 WHY LINCOLN PARK?
Lincoln Park is one of Chicago's most historic and beloved lakefront destinations. Originally established as a cemetery, it gradually became a sprawling public landscape filled with gardens, museums, historic buildings, lagoons, monuments, and recreational spaces that Chicagoans have treasured for generations.
At the heart of it all — Lincoln Park Zoo, one of the oldest zoological institutions in North America and one of the last remaining free zoos in the United States. The zoo began in 1868 with a gift of two swans to the Lincoln Park Commissioners — and from that humble beginning grew into a world-class institution now focused on wildlife conservation, animal care, education, and connecting Chicagoans with nature. 🦢🦁
During the walk we'll explore the zoo's fascinating evolution — from early animal displays to modern habitats — while uncovering the architectural history, park landscapes, memorials, and hidden stories that make Lincoln Park one of Chicago's most rewarding outdoor destinations.
