About this Event
Our thoughts possess the power to either constrict or liberate us. They can leave us feeling tangled within ourselves, or they can create space for clarity and freedom. To give form to this invisible aspect of human experience, artist Vidushi Parashar represents each individual thought as a single tube.
At its most fundamental level, the tube can be understood as a line, and the line as a thread, the smallest unit from which a larger textile structure is built.
|+ | = X
Not every thought is harmonious, and when we have contradictory thoughts, they begin to intersect = knots.
These knots become metaphors for our internal conflicts, moments when contradictory thoughts, fears, and expectations collide. The sensation of feeling “knotted” within does not emerge from a single thought, but from the accumulation and entanglement of many.
Through knotted textile sculpture, Parashar gives form and voice to a feeling that cannot be seen, only felt. By externalizing something so personal, the work puts the viewer at ease.
To solve bigger knots, we need help. Parashar uses inflatables to evoke a sense of community and encourage people to seek help when they need it. Using inflatable tubes, the audience interacts with the knot, which is initially static. When two people give power to the large knot through two tubes and two activation points, something magical happens: the knot is resolved. This leaves participants feeling empowered, encourages connection, and reaffirms the importance of play.
