To attend this course you will need a minimum of the one day Emergency First Aid at Work or Basic Life Support training.
Course Overview
This one-day Train the Trainer course gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver in-house Ligature Awareness & Protocol training. You’ll learn how to recognise risks, carry out environmental assessments, spot potential ligature points and safely manage incidents, including the correct use of ligature cutters.

- Understanding ligatures, risks and terminology
- Environmental risk assessment and risk-reduction strategies
- Identifying ligature points and potential materials
- Safe use, storage and disposal of ligature cutters
- Responding to self-ligature incidents and performing emergency procedures/BLS
- How to deliver both theory and practical elements of ligature protocol training
- Scenario-based practice and trainer assessment
Who Is It For?
Suitable for children’s homes, foster carers, mental health, social care, healthcare, and substance misuse services — or anyone supporting individuals at risk of self-harm or suicide.
Learners must hold an in-date First Aid qualification.
