Community Announcement: LHABAB DUCHEN 2026 | PROJECT 108 🙏🙏🙏
A Historic Day of Collective Prayer and Aspiration
The Bhutanese Buddhist and Cultural Centre, Canberra (BBCC), in collaboration with the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Canberra and the Australian Bhutanese Association of Canberra (ABAC), will commemorate Lhabab Duchen on Sunday, 1 November 2026, through a special programme of collective prayers, offerings and aspirations.
This sacred day holds particular historic significance for Bhutan this year, as it coincides with Project 108, a Royal initiative to construct 108 Jangchub Chortens at Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in a single day on 1 November 2026. On this auspicious occasion, people from Bhutan and around the world will unite in prayer and aspiration to support this extraordinary national initiative.
Although many of us may not be able to travel to Gelephu and be physically present for this historic occasion, distance need not prevent us from participating in this meaningful initiative. From Canberra, let us come together as one community, unite our hearts and prayers, and offer our collective aspirations for the successful and auspicious completion of Project 108.
Programme Details
📍 Venue: Alfred Deakin High School, Deakin📅 Date: Sunday, 1 November 2026⏰ Programme: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm🙏 Sungchoe (prayers) commence: 7:45 am
Our programme will commence with Sungchoe (prayers) at 7:45 am, at the same time as the Sungchoe begins at GMC at 2:45 am Bhutan time, marking this historic occasion of raising the 108 Jangchub Chortens.
We will also arrange a projector to screen a live broadcast from GMC, allowing us to witness this historic occasion together and offer our prayers and aspirations in unison.
Dasho Kutshab and officials from the Royal Bhutanese Embassy along with community leaders will join us for the programme commencing at 7:45 am.
The prayers ceremony will include the Neten Chudruk Sungchoe (Invocation of the Sixteen Arhats), recitation of the Heart Mantra of Lord Shakyamuni Buddha, and collective prayers dedicated to the successful completion of Project 108, the peace, wellbeing and prosperity of Bhutan, and the benefit of all sentient beings.
To encourage everyone to participate, we have prepared a prayer book in both English and Dzongkha, enabling attendees to follow the prayers and recite them together with our Chops.
Alongside the religious observances, the programme will feature a short cultural segment, including special songs dedicated to our beloved Kings, performed by Nawang and Tshering, followed by group dances.
Tea, breakfast, lunch and other refreshments will be served throughout the day. We are pleased to acknowledge and sincerely thank Ugyen Bidha and group for generously sponsoring this special commemoration.
We warmly invite all Bhutanese community members, families and friends to join us for this sacred and historic occasion. Let us come together as one community to participate in the spirit of Project 108 through our collective prayers, offerings and aspirations from Canberra, while celebrating our spiritual heritage, expressing gratitude to our parents, and strengthening our community bonds.
May Project 108 be accomplished auspiciously and successfully. May Bhutan enjoy lasting peace, happiness and prosperity, and may all sentient beings benefit from this noble initiative. 🙏🙏🙏
