About this Event

Royal Women’s Hospital (Victoria), provides childbirth and early parenting education, specifically for those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual, or a person otherwise diverse in gender, sexual oreintation. and/or sex characteristcs) community, together with their support circle and are birthing at our hospital

This program will be facilitated by a midwife who proudly identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This is a four part program that runs onsite from the hospital.

The 4 sessions run from 6:00-9:00 pm & will each cover a specific range of topics.

For example:

  • Safe Community Connection
  • Health care Rights/Culturally safe care
  • Progress of labour and birth
  • Support in labour
  • Practical coping methods during labour
  • Medical options for pain management
  • Medical assistance for birth
  • Communicating with your baby
  • Understanding breastfeeding and chest feeding
  • Navigating early parenting challenges
  • Community supports

As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, if you book into this program, you do not need to book another chidlbirth education program with the Women's.

Booking tips:

· Places are limited so book your spot as soon as possible.

· Aim to complete your education by 38 weeks of pregnancy at the latest.

· Places are limited so book your spot as soon as possible as these programs will be conducted 3-4 times per year.

· Use the name of the pregnant person when you book.

· You must provide your Royal Womens Hospital, Melbourne Medical Record Number, as we will check that you are booked to have your baby at the Women’s (Victoria).

· A confirmation email will be sent by Eventbrite after booking.

Payments and Refunds

ONE ticket is valid for the pregnant person and their immediate support circle.

Medicare Card Ticket - Free when the pregnant person:

  • is booked to birth as a public patient at the Womens hospital, Victoria
  • has a valid Medicare card (or eligible for reciprical rights)

Ineligible for Medicare Ticket - $450.00 when the person:

  • is booked to give birth as a Medicare-ineligible patient at the Women’s Hospital (Victoria)

This fee is refundable if you cancel at least one week before the first class. Some private health funds may offer a rebate—please check with your fund.

Need to cancel or reschedule?

· If you need to reschedule, please CANCEL your booking on the Eventbrite website, and then rebook into another course. PLEASE remember to cancel to allow somebody else to take your spot.

. If your pregnancy care is transferred to another hospital or health care provider you are no longer eligible to attend. We request you cancel your booking.

· If you can’t make it to one of your booked sessions, we are unable to offer a “make-up” session for the one you missed. Written summaries are provided for the program.
