About this Event

This full-day training provides frontline staff with a comprehensive understanding of domestic abuse, its risks, and the professional response required to safeguard victims. The session combines enhanced awareness of abuse, trauma, and complex needs with advanced skills in risk assessment and multi-agency safeguarding.

Participants will explore different types of abuse, the cycle of abuse, the impact on victims—including children and families—and the wider family and community context. The training also covers intersectionality, mental health, trauma-informed practice, and perpetrator behaviour, alongside practical application of risk assessment tools such as DASH and YP DASH, and engagement with multi-agency structures including MASH, MARAC, and DVDS.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and understand different types of domestic abuse with a deeper focus than basic awareness.
  • Understand the cycle of abuse and its impact on victims, including children and families.
  • Gain knowledge of relevant legislation and offences, including the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
  • Recognise how domestic abuse affects victims across all protected characteristic groups, including younger and older victims.
