🍊Self-Care Activity for up to 8 friends: There are only 8️⃣🎱🕗 spots available for this super enjoyable activity that is calming to the nervous system in and of it self. Think of it as 2 hours of low stress/high reward activity for you and a friend, or you and your child/grandchild, or just you (self-care, after all)!
🍊Pomanders: We’ll use oranges of different sizes and whole cloves to design pomanders. These fragrance bombs disburse aromatic oils over weeks and months and even years (!) due to the slow-release eugenol within cloves. They provide that citrus & spice punch that’s s so cheerful during the colder months. The pomanders dry over time, providing fragrance even years later, and can be reinvigorated even after the scent eventually fades (I’ll tell you how). These are not one season decorations!
🍊Simmer Pots: We’ll use ingredients like dried citrus, apples, and berries, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, juniper, pine, and more to make heavenly-smelling simmer pot jars. We crave these spices because they’re warming to the body and spirit. They remind us of winters past, maybe in grandma’s kitchen, when all felt right with the world. Plus, when you make a simmer pot, you are gently humidifying the dry winter air in that area.
🍊Why we crave spices in winter: During the winter, we have less sensory input from the outdoors, so our bodies become more aware of aromas around us. The aromatic oils from these warming spices travel into our body and eventually, our bloodstream. They don’t just smell good; these spices warm from within. They can be calming or invigorating (depending on what you choose). When we eat them in foods, they promote good digestion of the heavier meals we tend to eat during winter. They warm and invigorate our bodies physically. When we smell these herbs and spices, they warm and invigorate our mind and spirit.
I look forward to two hours of pre-holiday fun with you!
