About this Event
We are pleased to welcome guest contributors including Dr Chindo, a women’s health specialist; Chantel Sealey from CLASH NHS; and Dr Robyn Stephenson from Public Health Islington. The programme will include informative presentations, workshops and an open panel discussion, giving attendees an opportunity to share experiences and ask questions without judgement.
The event will also promote a holistic approach to women’s wellbeing through information about healthy diets, culturally inspired products and services, and practical ways to support physical and emotional health during menopause.
Women’s Health and Menopause: Breaking the Myths – Event Brief
Menopause is a natural stage of life, yet many women enter perimenopause and menopause feeling unprepared, unheard or uncertain about the changes they are experiencing. Myths, stigma and limited access to culturally appropriate information can prevent women from recognising symptoms, seeking timely support and making informed decisions about their health.
Go Africa Community Hub CIC, in partnership with Finsbury Park Trust, Public Health Islington and local health practitioners, is hosting a welcoming and supportive women’s health event focused on menopause, wellbeing and health inequalities.
The event will create a safe space for women—particularly women from Black African and Caribbean communities—to speak openly about their experiences, ask questions and receive trusted information from health professionals.
Topics will include:
- Understanding perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause
- Recognising physical, emotional and psychological symptoms
- Challenging common myths and cultural misconceptions
- Exploring available treatment, support and self-care options
- Communicating confidently with GPs and other health professionals
- Understanding how menopause can affect relationships, employment and everyday life
- Addressing inequalities in women’s healthcare and the experiences of Black women
- Strong links between menopause and sexual health. Menopause is not just about changes to periods; it can have a significant impact on sexual health, relationships, contraception needs, STI risk, and overall wellbeing.
Complimentary cultural meal, snacks and soothing classic Calypso, Reggae, Soul and R&B Music Therapy plays in the background
