Step into a world of magic, mysticism, and musical adventure as we open our season on Halloween Eve.About this Event
From centuries-old legends and supernatural tales to some of the most unforgettable music ever written for the screen, this spellbinding evening explores the many ways composers have used music to transport us beyond the ordinary.
The journey begins on stormy seas with Wagner’s Overture to The Flying Dutchman, inspired by the legend of a ghostly ship condemned to sail forever. Then, violinist Kinga Augustyn takes center stage for two dazzling works: Tartini’s legendary Devil’s Trill Sonata, a piece surrounded by one of classical music’s most fascinating supernatural stories, and Ravel’s fiery Tzigane.
After intermission, the magic continues with Weber’s Overture to Der Freischütz (The Magic Marksman), drawn from a tale filled with enchanted bullets, dark forests and supernatural forces. From there, the orchestra journeys into the cinematic imagination of John Williams with music from Harry Potter and the soaring theme from Jurassic Park.
And for the grand finale, Rossini’s Overture to William Tell brings the evening to a thrilling close with music that builds from quiet beauty to an unmistakable, galloping finish.
Whether you love classical music, movie scores, fantastic stories, or simply the thrill of a live performance, this Halloween Eve concert invites you to expect the unexpected and let your imagination take over.
