About this Event

Founded by Rodolfo Hernandez, Cuerdas Clásicas began with a group of young musicians who used their instruments to share their heritage with the public. Today, we are a 501-C3 non-profit organization that has earned international acclaim, television honors, and recognition from the State of Illinois for our professional excellence. Our ensemble is distinguished by its traditional "string and pick" instrumentation, including the mandolin, bandurria, lute (laúd), and guitar. Our repertoire bridges the gap between worlds, featuring everything from Hispanic-Mexican favorites to the timeless masterpieces of Mozart, Vivaldi, and Beethoven.

To celebrate half a century of service, we are hosting a premier anniversary concert featuring world-renowned guest artists from Mexico:

  • Tuna de Oro de Guanajuato: One of Latin America’s most prestigious ensembles, they represent a tradition dating back to 13th-century Spain and Portugal. Known for combining "the spirit of the students with the quality of the great masters," they bring a historical depth that is rare to find in modern performances.
  • Los Dulcemelos: A distinguished association dedicated to music education, creation, and social work through music, aligning perfectly with our mission of cultural promotion.
  • Mexican Folkloric Dance Complany: The Mexican Folk Dance Company of Chicago was founded in 1982 by, its present artistic directors and choreographers. As Chicago's oldest Mexican dance institution, MFDC has received countless recognitions and awards, has performed for three presidents and represented Mexico in the 1994 USA World Cup opening ceremony, as well as numerous national television performances, most notably at the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards.
