About this Event
The Garment District is facing a succession crisis. As small business owners age or want to change careers, many lack a plan for passing their businesses on. In losing them, we risk the erosion of NYC’s culture and identity as a global hub for craft and innovation in the fashion and garment industry.
A business is a living organism. Healthy stewardship and care includes succession planning for when the time comes for you to pass your legacy onward. Learn how a business can grow and pass on its legacy while keeping stewardship in the hands of the community, as well as orient the industry towards the future.
At this panel you’ll hear from three entrepreneurs who took different approaches to succession planning–from family inheritance, to selling to a community/industry member, or converting it to a worker owned cooperative business to stabilize the business for years to come.
Come ready to learn and network with the business owners and business support organizations in the community, and engage with what the future of the Garment District and NYC-based manufacturing could become in the hands of the next generation.
