🧠 Lecture: "Welcome to the Matriarchy: Humans, Hyenas, Bonobos & More"
🎤 Speaker: Natalia Reagan
Join us for a fascinating evening with biological anthropologist and comedian Natalia Reagan as she explores the power and history of matriarchies in both humans and animals. From bonobos and elephants to hyenas and beyond, you’ll discover how female-centered social structures have existed across cultures and species—and why patriarchy is not the default for human behavior.
Reagan will unravel common myths and misconceptions about gender roles, examining how patriarchies rooted in toxic masculinity harm everyone—men, women, and people of all genders. Drawing on insights from prehistory to the present, she’ll show how more egalitarian and matriarchal systems can elevate all expressions of gender and create healthier societies.
Natalia Reagan is a biological anthropologist, comedian, host, professor, and occasional monkey-chaser. You may recognize her from Neil deGrasse Tyson’s StarTalk, Nat Geo Wild’s Everything You Didn’t Know About Animals, Discovery’s DNews, and Scientific American’s Science Quickly, as well as her live science comedy show “Survival of the Filthiest.”
