🧠 Lecture: "Playing God: Who Gets To Decide Who Lives Or Dies?"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Aditya Pawar
Join us for a compelling evening as Dr. Aditya Pawar explores one of the most profound questions in human history: who gets to decide who lives or dies? From gladiators in ancient arenas and the absolute power of kings to modern juries, “God Committees,” and today’s transplant selection teams, this talk traces how the authority over life-and-death decisions has shifted over time.
Dr. Pawar will examine how these life-altering choices are made in contemporary medicine, especially in organ transplantation, where scarcity and ethics collide. He will highlight the tension between fairness, utility, and compassion, and what it means for patients and their families.
Aditya Pawar is a transplant nephrologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School. His work centers on patient participation, transparency, and trust in medical decision-making, particularly in transplantation.
